My Black Friday Fashion Crush

My Black Friday Fashion Crush

About three weeks ago I got to visit the Big Apple New York for the very first time and really wanted something special to wear whist checking out the city. My obvious color was black. I have no idea why, maybe its because I always want to play it safe. When you visit the man-cave you will notice that almost everything is white with a huge black wall. I just feel safe with neutral colors.

Now every Friday night i get to lead worship singing in from of 500 loud youngsters that's mostly half my age. That meant i had to work twice as hard as others looking young and fresh. That was no problem for the guys at Tendance. They the sister (rather brother) company of Fluer. Young designers based in the South of Johannesburg who started a great initiative giving orphaned and destitute girls the skill of dress making. These team of creative make sure i have at least two designer outfits every month to wear on Fridays.

This exactly what im going to wear tonight since Spring is finally here to stay...... I hope.

Glisson at The Residence Boutique Hotel - Johannesburg

It’s been a little while since I last wrote a hotel review , or even about Johannesburg for that matter. My recent travels have had me writing about destinations a little further afield, but I also love to write about the fabulous city I live in.

When the opportunity arose to visit the beautiful The Residence Hotel via a invitation from Inspirational Places, I was there with bells on.
I was quite concerned as the hotel were situated very close the the late Nelson Mandela's house in Houghton, not a hotel area but soon realized that this were the perfect setting for their concept.
Take a stroll through the manicured gardens and enjoy a game of tennis or swim a few lengths in the outdoor pools. Guests can work out in our fitness room, and arrangements can be made to play a round of golf on the nearby Houghton Golf Course.

A warm, hospitable welcome awaited me as well as a glass of French bubbly and warm greeting from the butlers.
"The Residence exudes a charming air of quiet dignity, with an abundance of bougainvillea blossoms cascading down the terraced gardens. This is a blissful oasis where guests are treated with personalized service and are invited to make themselves at home." This is exactly what I experienced.
The suites are all different with outside showers and amazing views.
The best was the luxury spa and rooftop bar. You have to try it out. I never had an opportunity to have a meal but the spread that was laid out in the restaurant looked impeccable. Best of all is that the executive chef is also a co owner.

That means that the cuisine comes personalized and with a whole lot of pride.
To sum up The Residence in 3 words I would choose tranquil, fanciful and flawless. As you can think the price of a one night stay doesn’t come cheap. But if you’re looking for a boutique experience whilst in the capital of Africa, then The Residence is the one.

Celebrity Engagement - Ashton Kutcher!

Actor Ashton Kutcher is reportedly engaged to his girlfriend Mila Kunis.

Kunis was spotted wearing a sparkling diamond on her left ring finger while out shopping in Los Angeles on Thursday. A source tells E! News that the couple is planning to tie the knot.

They started off as costars on That '70s Show, and now Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are set to become husband and wife – they're engaged, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

Following widespread speculation that the actors could soon walk down the aisle, Kunis, 30, stepped out with a diamond sparkler on her ring finger while shopping with her mother on Thursday.

"Ashton and Mila have talked about getting married for quite a while," a business source close to Kutcher told PEOPLE in December. Adds another Kutcher pal: "They're incredibly happy together."

Kutcher, 36 (which means im still fine being single at 33..lol), and Kunis were first rumored to be dating in April 2012, and from then on, the former costars appeared to be inseparable, enjoying some well-documented PDA and lavish vacations together.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West planning a super-small intimate' wedding in Paris.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly planning a super-small intimate' wedding in Paris.

They're known for their lavish lifestyles, but they want an 'intimate' ceremony. Rumours about the couple's wedding plans have been flying around since they announced their engagement in October, with recent reports suggesting they had their hearts set on an extravagant royalty-themed celebration at Versailles Palace. However, Some may view this as a tad shocking considering Kanye's extravagant proposal at the San Francisco Giants stadium. Kanye got down on one knee in front of Kim, with a 50-piece orchestra playing her favorite song in the background.
He also presented her with a 15-carat diamond ring by Lorraine Schwartz, which she proudly paraded all over social media.
Considering rumours involved jet engines, matching crowns and a cover on VOGUE, we're excited to see what the wedding day will actually involve. Kim also spoke out about how she and Kanye are working together to plan the day. "There's certain things I'm like, 'I know you're going to hate the seating chart, so I'll take care of this'," she told Seacrest. "And then there's some things that are really important to him. [But] the seating chart is like death."  "But we had such a strong bond," she continued. "He's really held my hand throughout my mistakes, and I don't think I'll ever find a friend that's as supportive."

And now, people, Kim gets to marry her very best friend and live happily ever after! Glisson N will keep an eye out for all the behind the scenes planning.

Justine & Shishen's Dramatic Statement

Justine & Shishen's Dramatic Statement by GN Events

Reinventing existing spaces is always exciting, and this wedding celebration was no exception. Our client wanted to create a focal point for the reception venue. The venue - The Hyatt Hotel Banquet Hall was just an empty shell before we started working on it. Around 180 people filled the space and did we create that focal point?
Working with my good friend Darren August and florist Ernest Niewenhuizen; our first challenge was the little space we had for the dancing floor. The dramatic statement - a 5x5m vinyl with the couple's signature image was to be fixed to the dancing floor with the 5 tier wedding cake in the middle.  After around 2 hours we managed to get it all in place with the assistance for Clement Naidoo and his team from Legacy. Needless to say, my clients were over the moon with it!

Cocktail event fit for a beauty queen!

A Beauty Queen’s Matric Farewell November 2013

I’ve known Cindy for a good couple of years. In fact, I did her Sister Jessica’s matric cocktail event back in 2010 at their then “newly renovated” 5 bedroom family residence in Glenvista Johannesburg. Cindy is no ordinary teenager. She is the current Miss Teen Johannesburg and Miss YOU Teen. She loves fashion modelling and dance and is quite a beautiful young lady.

Her parents wanted an afternoon event with her business associates, media partners and friends; and wanted the event to showcase how loved she really is. They foresaw nothing big as it would just be a 2-3 hour celebration. Their private residence was just the venue for the cocktail event, where their open plan kitchen, lounge and dining room would be used to entertain guests.

The celebration began with “RED GLOVE TREATMENT” as one of our handsome assistants welcomed guests at the gatehouse that was 60 yards from the main entrance.

A 15 meter red carpet was rolled out for the guests with a Rolls Royce Phantom parked next to it. The car expressed a sense of unrivalled status from every angle. After all, the car you arrive in is a major aspect of your matric farewell.  Our favorite chef at Destiny prepared premium canapés fitting for celebrities that were displayed strategically in-between the photo ramp and the lounge. While the matriculants were having their oohs and aahs outside at the pool area, adults relaxed in the lounge with champagne and house music in the background.

Sticking to my signature HUGE DÉCOR focus points, Cindy directed the focus to the Photo Wall, Champagne Bar and her Rolls Royce. Everything else complimented it. I took advantage of the personalised Bubbly Bar and did my first shoot for my 2014 “Red Carpet Moments with Glisson” series that will air this February. Final editing is still in progress with my friends over at Décor Picture and Frame. Keep an eye out for it.

We decided not to direct guests to the lounge area immediately, but instead take them to the Photo Wall where Cindy welcomed them and took pictures with them. Guests started arriving at 4pm with many of the media (including YOU Magazine) being there first.

Sunset signalled the end of the cocktail event but just before Cindy’s convoy departed for Thaba Ya Batswana, situated approximately 3km from her home, there was a few minutes for me to do a quick toast and her parents told her and her friends to do their very best in the upcoming matric exams. Well, they did exactly so with her school achieving a 99.1% pass rate (one pupil was sick and could not write) and 175 distinctions; 8 of them belonging to Cindy herself that came a close 2nd overall at her school and in the TOP 1% (Business Studies) in South Africa in the IEB Exams.

The #GNEvents Team really enjoyed working on this special event and can’t wait for the 2014 matric farewell season as we host our first ever Glisson N Matric Farewell Cocktail Event.

Until next time; God Bless!
